Did you know that diabetic retinopathy is a leading cause of blindness in the U.S. today? According to the National Diabetes Information Clearinghouse, between 12,000 to 24,000 new cases of blindness every year are attributed to diabetes.
If you have diabetes, what can you do to protect your vision?
- Try to keep your blood sugar levels in a normal range. High blood sugar can damage delicate blood vessels in the eye.
- Visit an eye doctor regularly for checkups.
- If you notice any changes in your vision, call your eye doctor immediately.

A Hungry Lion in My Tummy, picture book, is an adventure of healthy foods for preschoolers and young elementary children that is reaching athletic clubs, educators and parents. This book brings into focus the health benefits of feeding the lion with good foods which all have a positive impact. The character makes the food choices for the lion based on the effects the food will have so the lion can perform. "Maybe I should feed him a banana? A banana will keep his muscles springy so he can jump, twist and exercise." And as the story goes, "But that's not enough for a hungry lion" and the adventure begins. There is a variety of fruits and vegetables mentioned in the story that will enable parents and program directors of special events to have a taste test with the children. Protein is tapped into and the impact it will have as well. A Hungry Lion in My Tummy brings home the message when the character finally decides that if he feeds the lion little bites of all the good foods the lion will be strong and healthy. I finally broke down and got a slight unfill on Monday.
It's been a gradual process and as a result, have been miserable, but my lapband has gotten tighter. I'm guessing from stress.
We have some things going on that I can't share, but my world isn't very stable. Plus discovered we owe $2800 to the IRS, and I am still not sure how that happened.
So I am a little tightly wound.
Friday was almost the last straw, just as soon as I started eating lunch, it came back up, it was something I'd eaten several times before and just couldn't believe it came up.
I called TLC Edge where I got my fill, and the fill tech was out, but suggested if it was really bad to see my surgeon. I talked with him, talked with his fill tech but decided to tough it out over the weekend, by the end of the day.
The good news, is that I haven't tossed my cookies in days, since the unfill. The bad news is that I'm on a mostly liquid diet -- I try, but, and I was ravenous last night. Tonight should be better as Macy and I have agility for at least an hour.
